The Scottish Rite Center was originally built as the Mizpah Shrine Temple in 1925 by local architect Guy Mahurin. The Auditorium and Ballroom were created to not only be a gathering place for Masons, but were also built to fill Fort Wayne’s need for a community center. Over 75 years later, the Scottish Rite wants to continue that tradition by undertaking a $3.1 million renovation to update and restore many areas of this historic structure. On the National Register of Historic Places in Fort Wayne’s West End District, famous performers such as Clark Gable, Betty Grable and Yul Brynner as well as popular musicals such as Ziegfield Follies with Fannie Brice and Eve Arden, South Pacific and CATS have all appeared on the stage in its long, eventful history. Today, the Scottish Rite Center plays host to numerous types of events. The 2,086 seat Auditorium handles touring theatrical productions, music concerts, high school graduations, large seminars and other national and local events. Our Valencia Ballroom can accommodate wedding receptions, trade shows, banquets, dances, and much more. Other facilities, such as our Horseshoe Lobby, Dining Room, and Conference Room, house receptions, board meetings, dinners and more.
The 431 Foundation was formed to raise the funds needed for the Scottish Rite Center's renovation project. The 431 Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that qualifies your contribution as tax-free (to the extent of current tax laws.) Community Building...One Seat at a Time Help the Scottish Rite Center and the 431 Foundation preserve history by purchasing an auditorium seat! Renovations to the Auditorium will take place in the summer of 2004, including new seats, carpet, paint and curtains. Unfortunately, we only have enough funds to replace HALF of the auditorium seats. Unless we raise the necessary funds, we will only have half a renovated house! Please consider purchasing a nameplate on an auditorium seat to memorialize loved ones or honor yourself, your family or your business. Seats are $500 a piece and we offer convenient payment methods. Download the Auditorium Seat pledge card below to help renovate the Scottish Rite Auditorium!
